Abstract
With the breakthrough advancement of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AIGC) technology, its integration into education has become a central issue in the global digital transformation of education. To systematically reveal the research status, hotspots, and evolutionary trends in the field of AIGC-empowered education in China, this study draws on the Web of Science (WoS) Core Collection. It combines bibliometric and content analyses to examine 1,505 English-language journal articles published by Chinese scholars between 2022 and 2025. The bibliometric results show that publication output in this field has grown explosively since 2022, forming a research landscape centered on highly cited educational-technology journals and characterized by multidisciplinary integration; research hotspots are concentrated on themes such as the educational applications of large language models, instructional innovation, learning outcomes, educational ethics, and intelligent tutoring systems; and the field's development has proceeded through three stages—technology introduction, application exploration, and deep integration—with the research frontier now shifting toward personalized learning, smart-education ecosystems, and digital transformation.
