Abstract

With the expansion of the digital economy, Digital RMB (e-CNY) has attracted increasing attention in China. China possesses a large consumer base and market; Digital RMB has already been applied in everyday consumption scenarios including catering, utility payments, shopping, transportation, and medical services, demonstrating a clear positive effect on consumer spending propensity. This paper reviews the literature and policy documents on central bank digital currency (CBDC), discusses the characteristics and applications of Digital RMB, and examines its use in retail, enterprise, and cross-border contexts. At the retail consumption level, it summarizes user experience and shortcomings in retail practices, and analyzes its impact on traditional platform coupons. From the enterprise perspective, it assesses its role in supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). From the international perspective, it extends the analysis to the current state and implications of cross-border applications.
