Abstract
Many teenagers today struggle with mental health issues: anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, relationship difficulties, and school‑related stress are common. A key underlying cause is insecure attachment. When teens are insecurely attached, they tend to have low resilience and more emotional problems. Resilience is a protective factor for mental health. It is the dynamic ability to cope effectively under stress, and it can buffer the negative effects of insecure attachment and life stress on anxiety and depression. Resilience is not fixed from birth. Research suggests that mindfulness is a relatively stable trait that may predict resilience, and the two are closely linked. In this review, we explore how attachment styles relate to resilience in adolescents. We ask whether high mindfulness can reduce the harmful impact of insecure attachment on resilience. Theoretically, this adds a moderating mechanism; practically, it provides a basis for school‑based mindfulness interventions targeting at‑risk youth. The findings of this paper can offer actionable psychological guidance for frontline school counselors and mental health educators working with adolescents.
